Tripo Family: The Complete Guide

Tripo AI is one of the most complete 3D providers on Scenario, covering the full pipeline from a reference image to a rigged, animation-ready character. This guide covers every Tripo model on the platform, with the main focus on the 3D generation models (single image, multi-image, and text), the models most people reach for first. The other Tripo tools, the ones that take an existing 3D model as input to clean up, texture, segment, rig, or restyle it, are covered afterward: linked to their own dedicated article where one exists, and explained in more depth here where it does not.

1. Single Image to 3D (img23d)
One reference image in, one full 3D asset out. This is the fastest path from a 2D concept to a usable model.
Tripo 3.1: the current flagship for production-ready, high-fidelity assets. Set Texture level to Extreme for hero-asset detail, enable Smart Low Poly to keep the mesh lightweight without losing silhouette, and use Quad mesh topology when the asset needs clean deformation later (for example before rigging).
Tripo P1: Tripo's native 3D diffusion engine, built for stable, engine-ready topology straight out of generation. Supports Texture level (Standard, Detailed, Extreme), Auto Size for real-world scaling, and standard PBR, Face Limit, and Quad mesh controls. Tripo P2 (preview): the next step past P1's native 3D diffusion, with even cleaner topology, a genuine quad mesh export (FBX), and face counts up to 50,000 triangles or 25,000 quads. TripoSplat: turns a single product photo into a 3D Gaussian splat, reconstructing the object's full shape and color in seconds. It is the fastest way to get a realistic, viewable 3D preview and outputs both a .spz preview and a downloadable .ply. Best for product visualization rather than a game-ready mesh. Tripo 3.0: the previous generation, still available for teams standardized on it. Offers the same core controls (geometry quality, mesh topology, texture alignment) with slightly less refined output than 3.1.

Pro Tip: If your target is a lightweight, always-on preview (e-commerce, AR-lite), start with TripoSplat. If you need a real, riggable game mesh, start with Tripo P1 for speed, Tripo P2 (preview) for the cleanest topology and a native quad export, or Tripo 3.1 for maximum quality.
2. Multi Image to 3D (Multiview)
Each model above has a Multi View counterpart that accepts up to four reference angles (front, left, back, right) instead of one image, trading a bit of setup time for a model that is structurally accurate from every side.
Tripo 3.1 Multi View: the four-angle version of 3.1, for hero assets and complex characters where a single image leaves too much guesswork. Supports the same Extreme texture and Smart Low Poly controls as the single-image model.

Tripo P2 Multi View (preview): the four-angle version of P2, taking a front image plus any combination of left, back, and right. Front and back alone is the safest combination for independently generated reference views; in our own testing a full four-view case also came back clean, so the option is there when extra side-profile fidelity is worth checking. No reference image at all: describe the object and get a 3D asset back.
Tripo P2 Text to 3D (preview): the first text-to-3D model in the Tripo family, built on the same native 3D diffusion engine as Tripo P2. Supports the same PBR, texture quality, quad mesh, and auto size controls as the image-based models. Tripo's own guidance, confirmed in testing, is that short and concrete prompts (subject plus material and color) work better here than long, cinematic descriptions. 4. Other Tripo Tools (3D to 3D)
These models take a 3D model as input (uploaded or generated with any of the models above) instead of an image, so you can clean up, prep, or animate a mesh you already have.
Tripo Retopology: converts a dense or AI-generated mesh into clean, low-poly geometry with face-count control and texture baking. No dedicated article yet, so a bit more detail here: the documented Face Limit range is 1k to 20k, treated as a target rather than a hard cap, results with Quad mesh enabled can land slightly above it depending on the source topology. This is the model to reach for before rigging or exporting to a game engine.

Tripo 3.0 Texturing: applies PBR materials or painted textures to an existing model using a text prompt, an image, or a style reference. No dedicated article yet: it works best on a plain-surface mesh so the new texture is not fighting an existing one, and pairs well with Tripo Segmentation when you only need to retexture one part of a model.

Tripo Rigging 1.0 [Biped] and Tripo Rigging 2.5 for Quadrupeds: no dedicated article yet, so here is the full picture. These auto-rig a character mesh for animation: v1 (the older of the two) handles standard bipeds, and v2.5 (newer) covers quadrupeds, hexapods, octopods, avian, serpentine, and aquatic anatomies. Both support pre-set Retarget animations (Walk, Jump, Slash, Shoot) and an Include Rigged Model toggle to export a weighted, skeleton-ready file.

Pro Tip: Keep the input mesh under 300k polygons for rigging. Tripo's engineering team confirmed there is no hard cap enforced on their side, but heavier meshes take significantly longer to process and are far more likely to fail with a "Model too complex" error, this applies to both v1 and v2.5. If your source mesh is denser (for example a raw output straight from Tripo 3.1 or another high-detail generator), run it through Tripo Retopology first, quad topology is also recommended over triangles for cleaner rigging results.
Tripo Segmentation v1 and Tripo Segmentation v2 (newest): split a 3D mesh into semantic, editable parts (characters, props, hard-surface pieces). Full walkthrough: Tripo Segmentation: The Essentials.
Tripo Stylization: no dedicated article yet: a one-step global restyle for an existing 3D model into LEGO, Voxel, or Voronoi aesthetics. Useful as a fast creative pass once the base geometry is locked.

5. A Recommended Pipeline
For a game-ready character or prop, the Tripo family covers every step end to end:
1. Generate: create the base asset with Tripo P1, Tripo P2, or Tripo 3.1 (Multi View if you have multiple reference angles), or TripoSplat for a quick visualization-only pass. With no reference image at all, use Tripo P2 Text to 3D instead.
2. Retopologize: run Tripo Retopology to bring the mesh to an engine-friendly poly count, especially before rigging.
3. Texture or Segment: apply Tripo 3.0 Texturing for a new material pass, or Tripo Segmentation if you need to edit or retexture individual parts separately.
4. Rig: animate the result with Tripo Rigging v1 or v2.5, keeping the mesh under 300k polygons as noted above.
5. Restyle (optional): finish with Tripo Stylization if the project calls for a LEGO, Voxel, or Voronoi look.
