Choose Which Results Continue in a Workflow
Last updated: October 7, 2026
When a workflow generates several candidates, you often want a person to keep the best one before the next steps spend more credits. The Slice Items node in Choose mode pauses the run, shows you the candidates, and continues with only the items you pick.
Set It Up
Open your workflow in the Node Editor and add a generator that returns several outputs, for example an image generator set to 4 images.
Add a Slice Items node and connect the generator's output to it.
At the top of the node, select Choose.
Set Number of Items to how many results you want to keep, for example 1.
Optionally, write a Message to tell the person what to look for, such as "Pick the shot with the clearest silhouette".
Connect the Slice Items output to the next step, for example an upscaler or a video generator.
Run It in the Node Editor
Run the workflow. When the candidates reach Slice Items, the run pauses and a picker opens with your message and the candidates. Pick exactly the number of items you set and click Confirm: only the nodes after Slice Items run, with your selection. Stop Workflow ends the run instead.
If you close the picker, the run keeps waiting: the node shows your message and a Select to Continue button that opens the picker again.
You can also hover the node and use Run From Here or Run This Node; the run still pauses for your selection.
Run It in an App
When you publish the workflow as an app, Choose mode comes with it. During an app run, a picker opens with your message and the candidates. Select the items and click Confirm to continue, or click Stop Workflow to end the run.
There is no list of paused runs yet, so make your selection from the run you started.
Tips
To keep several results and process each one, set Number of Items to the count you want and connect Slice Items to a Loop.
Inside a Loop, every iteration asks for its own selection. If several iterations finish at the same time, their selections queue and appear one after another.
Choose works on lists of text too, for example to keep the best of several prompts written by an LLM node.
Choose mode is the human step, so Slice Items does not connect to an Approval node. Use Approval when you only need a yes or no on a single result.
